This version of An Occasional Dream is just gorgeous. It’s the sixth track of the live gig at the Paris Cinema Studios in London, a BBC Radio session broadcast on John Peel’s The Sunday Show from early 1970. It’s just Bowie on acoustic, with John Cambridge on drums tapping out the beat with a cross-stick (rim click) and Tony Visconti providing the melody on bass. Bowie’s vocal performance is just awesome: wistful, longing, lost. It’s a real pity this track didn’t get included on Bowie at the Beeb (1990) with a clean recording from the Bowie archive, as all we have is an old tape cassette rendering of the original broadcast.
